Conceptual UAV Design

Before being introduced to numerically-optimized aircraft design, I’d often developed concepts using back-of-the-napkin estimations, and quickly rendered them in CAD. These were as much of a creative exercise as they were in actual aircraft design. Here are a few of those one-off designs.

  • I’ve either watched a youtube video or seen an interesting technology out there that I’d want to demonstrate. Alternatively, I’ve had too much spare time…

  • Not yet, primarily due to budget and time constraints. My intent is to one day continue iterating on these designs to build and test some of these.

  • My CAD skills in Fusion360, CATIA V5, and Solidworks are now better as a result of this. Additionally, taking these designs to industry experts at companies I’ve worked with gave me a number of insights as to why they would/wouldn’t work, and how to improve them.
